An interview with Nick Knapp, master grower and one of two co-founders at 802 Craft Cannabis.
We are a father/son family founded company, created by two veterans from Vermont.
Tell us a little bit about what makes your farm special: location, acres, processes, etc. Had you worked with cannabis or as a farmer prior?
Our farm is USDA certified organic and we handle all of our hemp from seed to shelf. Our hemp flower rosin extraction process is an all natural and solventless process that yields a CBD concentrate rich in cannabinoids, flavonoids and terpenes that we infuse into our products. I have a few years of experience growing cannabis to refine my practices and gain personal experience before moving to cultivating commercial hemp.
What does your farm produce? (top flower, extract, other crops, etc.) Do you have any products?
Our farm focuses on providing a variety of full-spectrum hemp products including organic artisan flower, pre-rolls, CBD and CBG tinctures, infused honey and various topicals. All of our flower is traditionally hang dried and slow cured before being infused into our products.
What is your favorite aspect of family farming? Who participates?
Our favorite part about family farming is that we have all gotten to learn a lot together throughout this process. Everyone in the family has something to teach and everyone plays a unique role in allowing us to grow and learn.
Any fun stories of struggles you’ve overcome on the farm?
Shortly after transplanting our seedlings into our field in June, we had found some of our plants had gotten trampled by turkeys throughout the night... Turns out they were just "super-cropping" and "mainlining" our plants for us, as they recovered in no time and had far more branching.
Do you have any advice for anyone entering the industry? Where do you think the industry is headed?
To anyone entering the industry, I would highly recommend you know your cannabis plant well before diving into large scale growing. I believe there is a lot of room for the hemp industry to grow and thrive. There's always something new to be brought to the table.
And finally, if there are any people that you’d like to recognize from your farm or the industry in general that have helped get the company to where it is now?
My father and our co-founder, Keith Knapp, helps make most of what happens at our farm possible.
