Oregon CBD plant pathologist Dr. Andrea Garfinkel has published a research note on her botrytis work on hemp in the Pacific Northwest conducted last fall in the journal "Plant Research." Genomic sequencing of botrytis isolates revealed three separate strains--two known (botrytis cinerea and botrytis pseudocinerea) and one previously published but unnamed line.
Dr. Garfinkel comments, "I think the takeaway from the paper is that disease diagnosis is often more complex than at first sight. Diseases caused by different pathogens often resemble each other in symptomatology and differences in species are not always evident by sight alone. The first step in effective disease management is proper diagnosis; we are only just starting to scratch the surface about our knowledge of diseases of hemp, and as the industry grows, it will be essential for growers to get reputable, scientific information."
